Response ........ Response .........
June and July 2007 saw some of the worst floods hit the UK for many years with large areas and many towns completely flooded.
Throughout the floods, SRS was transporting scrubber driers on a daily basis to areas all over the UK including Gloucestershire, Cumbria, South Yorkshire, Berkshire, Lincolnshire and parts of the North West to assist in the emergency clean-up operation.
The Meadowhall Centre in Sheffield was among the worst affected areas and SRS was called in to help with the major clean-up operation there.

SRS’s 24 hour response ensured flood and fire restoration contractors were on hand immediately and were able to supply scrubber driers to assist in the clearing and cleaning of completely flooded areas.
The NSS Wrangler 3330 and ride on NSS Champ 29 and 35 battery scrubber driers were used for the smaller areas but for larger areas the engine powered PowerBoss TSS82 was needed.
Initially the scrubber driers were used to soak up the water through the squeegee blades which transferred the dirty water to the recovery tanks for disposal. The driers were then used for scrubbing and cleaning the areas which were left soiled by the floods.
SRS advises businesses to seek out the immediate assistance of specialist Flood, Fire & Restoration Companies. The actions taken in the first 24 hours following an incident will influence the recovery options available to you. If first aid measures are not carried out, further damage and deterioration of both contents and building structure will undoubtedly take place. Initial actions involve stabilising the environmental conditions in the affected premises in terms of temperature and humidity. This is to stop both damp and mould growth.
Normal conditions also need to be established as soon as possible in order to stop the damage spreading into unaffected areas. This may mean the removal of laying water and effecting the drying process.
Following a flood or contamination incident, the immediate effects on a building are often clearly visible, however, the hidden damage problems which lead to long term risks and defects are not always so obvious.
Contamination can be a serious hazard and a specialist contractor will fully investigate the extent of this by undertaking swab analysis to profile the extent of the contamination. Detailed site evaluations, reports, specialist advice and recommendations to enable appropriate and rapid decisions to be taken are also undertaken straight away. The latest techniques to dry, decontaminate and deodorise are then deployed to ensure that the structure and environment are returned to a condition for safe occupation in the shortest possible time.
To Save and restore valuable irreplaceable documentation a method of Vacuum drying can be made available. Freeze-drying is the process of drying frozen materials by sublimation and desorption at low pressure and at sub zero temperatures. It then applies heat to the paper while in a sub zero vacuum which accelerates the rate of sublimation. The moisture which was contained in the paper is drawn out and is then frozen to the walls of the unit. The unit is capable of reducing the moisture content of documents back to its original state of approximately 6% and is considered the most effective vacuum method of removing moisture from paper materials.
During the unprecedented flooding, the likes of which have never been seen before, one of SRS’ international Flood & Fire Restoration Specialist Customers worked round the clock recorded handling it’s commercial contracts at over 200% of their normal workload and at the height of the flooding in Doncaster and Hull new instructions were being handled at 15 times normal rate.
Because of the size of SRS Hire Fleet of scrubber driers and sweepers and the 24 hour response we offer SRS was able to meet the huge demands of it’s specialist Flood Restoration Customers during the worst flooding the UK has yet experienced.
